🔥 Maker Interview
Hello Mohammed, tell us a little bit about yourself.
My name is Mohammad Alshayeb, I am a software Developer/Engineer/Architect. I worked for many companies across multiple industries in the last 16 years.
2 years ago, a co-founder and I started to work with remote developers on a serious start-up idea, that required a mobile app. I never built an app during my career, so we looked for help. I found out that there are many developers available on the market, but most of them are not professionals.
I started to look for alternative solutions since it was costing us time and money without results. I considered getting into mobile development myself since I am a developer, but I am specialized in enterprise applications. It would take too much time and energy, which I couldn’t afford.
I discovered about No-Code and that seemed the solution for me.
Tell us about your product that you made?
I had many startup ideas with different partners, but the one I ended up working on seriously is a food aggregator platform, just like UberEats or DoorDash, but with a twist.
The main idea of the app is not new, it is already validated, what we have done is that we have enhanced it and focused on a specific market (Jordan).
Which No-Code tools did you use ?
We chose to built it with Adalo. It’s a No-Code builder which you can use to build a native mobile app. I have selected it after intensive comparison with other tools. My conclusion was that Adalo is:
Much simpler and easier for someone with no mobile application development experience.
The UI design editor is the greatest and unmatchable.
It is giving the complete required tools in one platform: mobile app development, web app development and database all connected beautifully together.
The first mockup took less than a week, which was impressive. After that, we had to do some improvements, so the app worked perfect on older devices.
Next to that, we had to do a lot of business related things:
Establishing the company
Working on the payment gateway
Listing in the app stores
Integration with delivery partners
Marketing
How did you launch and grow your product?
I’m responsible for the technical developments and my co-founder is responsible for marketing. As we are now focusing on Jordan, he could use a lot of his relations with restaurants owners. He connected with them, closed agreements and contracts, …
In terms of users, we are following the "Tree Marketing" approach. We have started with people around us. We asked them to share it around and like that it’s getting bigger and bigger through word of mouth.
Why did you decide to build with No-Code?
Building a decent professional app with code will take a lot of time and money. But most importantly, we were not satisfied with the results from freelancers, especially for a picky experienced developer like me.
In my case, No-Code gave me the opportunity to build a mobile app myself and staying in control without worrying a lot about mobile device complexities and mobile OS complications
Can you share some stats?
We went live almost 2 months ago, and we are going according to a smooth, slow plan in order to test and validate everything.
We managed to secure around 1k users, and successfully processed 600+ orders, which generated around $1000 in revenue out of 14k sales.
What kind of advice would you like to share with someone who wants to get started with No-Code?
Make sure, before you start, that the downsides of No-Code are not a showstopper for your project. In some situations I regretted going with No-Code because some tasks can be done much simpler with code. But the speed of development and doing it myself were important to us.
Where can we go to learn more about you and your project?
